Carol had three sisters, Roberta, Barbara, Wenda, and a brother, Patrick “Pat”.
As the eldest child, she helped her dad milk cows before and after school, tended the livestock, drove the tractor and baled hay in the summers.
Carol graduated from Norton Community High School. She married Robert “Bob” Whitney of Norton on December 24,1955. They had three children in Norton, Rodney (Rod), Ronald (Ron), and Janelle. In 1970, Bob, Carol and family moved to Canyon, Texas, where they were blessed with another son, Michael (Mike).
In 1976, our family relocated to Olathe, Kansas, where her husband, Bob, accepted a position to manage a farm implement training center that allowed him the opportunity to be home instead of traveling weekly. She enjoyed being a homemaker, room-mom, family taxi driver, and volunteering for many school and sports activities.
After her children grew up, Carol worked part-time in food service at Johnson County Community College and later, at the Olathe School District, as a Para and a bus aid. She always had a soft-spot for kids of all ages.
Carol was a devoted wife, mother, grandma and great grandma. She treasured time spent with her family and friends and found joy in life’s simple, meaningful moments. Whether she hosted family dinners, birthdays and holidays to being outdoors with a glass of iced tea visiting with friends, watching sports or a romance movie or admiring her beautiful flowers in her yard she enjoyed her life. She will be forever remembered and greatly missed.
Bob and Carol celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary last December.
Carol was proceeded in death by her parents, her sisters and brother.
She is survived by her husband Bob, sons Rod, Ron and Mike (Kelli), and daughter Janelle (Rob). Grandchildren, Jesse (Melissa), Cody, Nash (Erika), Ty (Amy), Cana, Kristen (David) and Great-Grandchildren; Ben, Eddie, Ethan, Wyatt, Chloe, Boone and Cort.
A visitation will be held with family and friends at McGilley & Frye Funeral Home, 105 East Loula Street Olathe on Monday, April 27, 2026 from 1:00-2:00 pm followed by the burial at the Olathe Memorial Cemetery.
