Catherine M. Murphy, born December 14th, 1961, in Brooklyn, New York, passed away in Olathe, Kansas, surrounded by her husband of 41 years and their three children. She will be remembered for the wonderful family she raised, the grandchildren she adored, the friends whose lives she touched, the animals she rescued, and the legacy of kindness and devotion she leaves behind.
Cathy attended The Mary Louis Academy in Jamaica, New York, where she formed lifelong friendships. She went on to earn her B.S. degree in Dietetics from Villa Maria College in Erie, Pennsylvania, becoming a Registered Dietician. She worked in various roles with Saga Corporation and Marriott, serving in hospital and nursing facility settings.
Shortly after graduating, Cathy married her high school sweetheart, Ed. They first settled in Middle Village, Queens, before moving to Old Bridge, New Jersey, where they welcomed their son, Ryan, followed by their daughter, Jillian. The family later relocated to Ashburn, Virginia, where Cathy joyfully welcomed their third child, Briana (Sister Kenosis). During her years in Virginia, she embraced life as a stay at home “super mom” while also working part time as Assistant General Manager of the Ashburn Sports Pavilion.
Cathy and her family eventually made their home in Olathe, Kansas, where they continued to raise their children. She later returned to the workforce with the Olathe School District, serving in several roles including PARA, Principal’s Secretary, Assistant Supervisor, Superintendent’s Secretary, and Buyer. Her dedication, warmth, and reliability made her a valued presence in every position she held.
A lifelong animal lover, Cathy rescued and cared for numerous pets over the years, including five dogs and two cats who were part of the family. Her compassion extended beyond her home—she was a gestational surrogate for a dear friend, carrying twins and bringing immeasurable joy to their family.
Among her greatest blessings were her four beautiful grandchildren, whom she cherished deeply. Being their grandmother was one of the greatest joys of her life.
Cathy is survived by her loving husband, Ed; her son Ryan, his wife Jona, and their children Oliver and Eliza; her daughter Jillian, her husband Scott, and their children Noah and Leo; her daughter Briana (Sister Mary of the Kenosis, SSVM); and her sister Denise, her husband Jeff, and their three children Victoria, Danny, and Anna.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Anna Muravcki, and her brother, Paul Muravcki.
Services for Cathy will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 5th, 2026 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church 13615 West 92nd Street Lenexa Kansas. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Reception to follow in the Social Room.
Cathy was known for her love of family, friends, animals, and everyone whose lives she touched. Her memory will continue to inspire all who knew her.
