

Chuck was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on January 7, 1937, to Walter A. and Myrtle E. (McCabe) Ryan. After Chuck’s mother passed away, his father married Audrey Powell, and Chuck was raised from age 9 by them. He graduated from Tech High School in 1955 in Des Moines. He married the love of his life, Sandra Finney, on March 23, 1956.
Chuck ran his own finish carpentry business, Ryan and Sons, for several years. Following that, he worked at Meredith Corporation and the Iowa State Fairgrounds before retiring in Forsyth, Missouri. Chuck was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Isaak Walton League, Ducks Unlimited, and the Elks Club, and served as a volunteer fireman and on the rescue unit with the Delaware Township Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, antiquing, and gardening in his free time. Most of all, he loved just being around his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Walter A. and Myrtle E. (McCabe) Ryan, and Audrey (Powell Ryan) Westmark; wife, Sandra Ryan; son, Scot Ryan; and two sisters, Mary Staats and Marguerite Walljasper.
Chuck is survived by his children: Michael Ryan (Kathy) of Altoona, Iowa; Peggy Brattebo of Ankeny, Iowa; and Beth Daniels (Todd) of Olathe, Kansas; Monique Andrade (Scot’s significant other) of Omaha, Nebraska; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Saturday, January 29 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 3300 Easton Blvd, Des Moines, Iowa. A Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 am followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 am. Burial services will follow at the Glendale Masonic Cemetery, 1550 48th Street, Des Moines. The family requests that masks must be worn.
