Daniel (Dan) Joseph Weldon (65 years old) passed away on May 24th, 2025 after a battle with cancer. Born in Chicago, he moved to Kansas City in 1961 and grew up on Rockhill Road. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic parish and attended their grade school. He graduated from Southwest High School and entered the Air Force at Lackland Air Force base in 1979.
He suffered through his adult life with schizophrenia, and always lived on the fringe with periods of homelessness. A hard worker, he often worked several jobs at a time, mostly in the service industry. He was resourceful, optimistic and a believer in Jesus Christ as his Savior. Even though he was plagued with delusions and paranoid feelings, he was known for his smile, and he cared deeply for others, always generous in spirit. Not having a phone for communication, he would handwrite letters with inspirational thoughts and professing God’s love. May he be taken into heaven and be free of the burden of mental illness for eternity.
Dan leaves behind two sisters, Ellen Weldon Payne (Howard Lee Payne) Stilwell, Kansas, and Kathleen Weldon Edwardsville, Kansas, nieces Jessica Graven (Jim Graven) Wellsville, Kansas, Genevieve Payne Portland, Oregon, Sarah Weldon Mahata (Avik Mahata) Cumberland, Rhode Island and nephew Matthew Payne (Cris Payne) Overland Park, Kansas, plus 8 great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Richard Daniel Weldon and Helen Rosemary Weldon.
Graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday morning, June 2, 2025 in the Veteran’s Garden at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 7601 Blue Ridge Blvd., Raytown, MO.
