David joined the Marine Corp after high school graduation. He spent four years in Vietnam, receiving a purple heart while there. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion.
He worked for the Federal Aviation Administration as an air traffic controller for 25 years at the Kansas City Air traffic Control Center in Olathe, KS. As a private pilot, this position was perfect for him.
Besides his grandchildren and great-grandchildren being the highlight of his life, he enjoyed Cruises with relatives and travel through Italy and Germany with friends. After he and Jan retired, except for Hawaii, they traveled throughout 49 states.
David is survived by his wife Janet (Jan), Sister Donneta (Myron) Schmieding, Utica, NE; Sister Dorothy (Mark) Schaaf, Platte Center, NE; Stepdaughter Robin Allenbrand, Olathe, KS; Granddaughter Karlyn Allenbrand, Wilmington, DE; Grandson, Bryce and Ashley Allenbrand and their two children Lucille and Adler, Olathe, KS, as well as nieces, nephews and many cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Clarence Kleber and Berneida Kleber; brother and sister-in-law Gary and Dalene; brother, Thomas (Tom) and sister, Delphine.

Services will be September 26, 2026 at the Bethany Lutheran Church, 9101 Lamar Ave, Overland Park, KS. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m., at the church with Services beginning at 11:00 and Inurnment at the Olathe Memorial Cemetery, 738 N. Chestnut, Olathe, KS.
