Donald Lee Blume, 92, of Lenexa, KS passed away September 3, 2014. Visitation will be Sunday, September 7, 2014 from 2-4 p.m. at the McGilley & Frye Funeral Home- 105 E. Loula St., Olathe, KS 66061. Funeral Services will be 11 a.m., Monday, September 8, 2014 at the Salem Lutheran Church, 9135 Haskins St., Lenexa, KS 66215. Burial will be held in Lenexa Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Salem Lutheran Church or Heart to Heart.
Donald Blume was born June 18, 1922 in Lenexa, Kansas to John and Ora Blume. He was a life- long resident of Lenexa for 92 years. He married the love of his life, Edna Rebecca Cunningham on Aug. 18, 1945 in Presque, MA while serving his country proudly in the United States Air Force in WWII. He returned to Lenexa, KS with his new bride and they established together the Olathe Block Company which was operated for over 50 years. He volunteered many hours of service to Salem Lutheran Church and served on the council for 3 terms. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Lenexa Fire Department and also served on the Lenexa Cemetery Board starting in the early 1980’s until his recent passing. He enjoyed helping his family and friends and tending to his bright colored flower gardens. In Don’s honor, the family ask that you please wear bright beautiful colors to celebrate his life and his love of bright colors to his funeral service.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Howard, Orville, John, Raymond “Bud”, Kenneth and Glenn.
He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Edna, daughters, Bonnie Beets and Joyce Fricke, grandchildren, Bryan Beets, Anneliese Fricke and Kirsten Fricke, great granddaughter, Amelie Beets, sisters, Letha Otte, Anna Jean Lingier & Eleanor Beene, brothers, Paul (Jewel) Blume, sister-in-laws, Vivan Blume, & Bernie Blume and many nieces, nephews and friends.
