Donald Clarence Johnson, 91, died August 7, 2018 at the Olathe Health Hospice House. Visitation will be Saturday, August 18 from 11-1pm at McGilley & Frye Funeral Home with service to follow at 1pm, with Pastor Gregg Hall officiating. Burial in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Olathe, Kansas.
Donald was proud of his service in the Navy aboard the USS Louisville Carrier as a radio operator, during WWII. He also served on the USS Breckinridge during the Korean War. He married Roberta Wilson in Bentonville, AR on August 5, 1950. Donald worked at Sunflower Ammunition Plant, RL Sweet Lumber and several other places. He resided in Olathe, KS until retiring in the early 1980's. His retirement years were spent in Prescott, KS, where he was very involved in delivering meals on wheels and serving at the election polls. Donald was a lifelong member of the American Legion, VFW and the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed traveling, hunting and fishing and enjoyed all aspects of living.
He was preceded in death by his spouse, Roberta Johnson; daughter, Carol Cannady; and sister, Gladis Nafus. Survivors include his three daughters: Janet Deck of Olathe, KS, Sona Swallow of Augusta, GA and Julie North of Olathe, KS; and his brother, James Edwin Johnson; nine grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.
