Dorothy Mae Bauer, 91, of Edgerton, Kansas passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, July 5, 2012. She will forever be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend.
Dorothy was born on September 20, 1920 in Parker, Kansas to Irvin Cowan and Dott Pearl (Stites) Bearly. She was a devoted member of Faith Baptist Church in Olathe, Kansas. Dorothy grew up on a farm near Parker, Kansas and attended and graduated from Parker High School. She moved, with her husband, to Olathe, Kansas in 1967 where she remained until recently. Her hobbies were writing poetry, working in her flower garden and baking, especially her delicious pies. Her greatest joys were spending time with her family and grandchildren. She worked at Kansas School for the Deaf before retiring in 1985. She will be sadly missed by everyone who knew her.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, husband of 31 years of marriage Carl W. Bauer who passed away in 1973 and one brother: John William Bearly. John William died as an infant before Dorothy was born. Survivors include her loving daughters: Nelda Boyd and her husband Ken of Wichita Falls, Texas and Barbara (Barb) Wood and her husband Terry of Edgerton, Kansas. Left behind to cherish her memory are her 4 grandchildren and their spouses: Michelle Hilbert and her husband Mark, Michel Boyd and his wife Tammie, Josh Wood along with Jake Wood and his wife Ashley. Dorothy is also survived by 8 great grandchildren: Sara, Stephanie, Scotti, Saylor, Emery, Brittany, Tiffany and Jared, brother: Irvin Bearly, sisters: June Raper and Ethel Phillippe. She leaves behind her pet dog “Gabby” that she grew fond of while staying with her daughter Barb and son-in-law Terry.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at Faith Baptist Church 15285 South Highway 169 Olathe, Kansas. Burial in Goodrich Cemetery, Goodrich, Kansas. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, July 9, 2012 at the McGilley & Frye Funeral Home 105 East Loula Street Olathe, Kansas.
