

Dorothy was born on August 1, 1920 in Almena Township, North County Kansas to Ben and Ella M. (Tomsha) Perkins. She spent most of her life in Barnsville, MN., where she attended and graduated from Barnsville High School. She married the love of her life Charles T. Russell on November 24, 1940. She worked in a dime store (TG&Y) as a store clerk. In the year 1946 she started her career as a seamstress with the Olathe Boot Company. She worked designing different patterns on boots for many clients including a pair specially designed for Roy Rogers. She worked designing boots for over 50 years before retiring. Dorothy and Charles lived in the Olathe community most of their married life. She enjoyed fishing and spending time with her husband and their pet dog, “Big Teddy”.
She is preceded in death by: her parents, husband Charles T. Russell who passed away in 1977 after 37 years of marriage. Dorothy is also preceded in death by seven brothers and two sisters. She is survived by her loving sister: Velma K. Flakus of Wellsville, KS., and will be sadly missed by several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 10, 2012 at the McGilley & Frye Funeral Home. Interment in Johnson County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday, August 9th at the funeral home.
