Francis Winfield “Wynn” Cochran, 87, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 5, 2018 at Morningstar Care Home in Ottawa, Kansas. He was born at Hepler, Kansas on July 19, 1930 to James and Elta Cochran and grew up on The O’Brien Ranch in Hiattville, Kansas.
He graduated from Uniontown High School in 1947 and served in The United States Air Force during the Korean conflict. Upon discharge from military service, he returned to manage ranch operations at the O’Brien Ranch then moved to Atchison, KS where he worked for Kansas Power and Light (later Westar Energy) for 36 years. He married Marilyn Ray of Shelbyville, Missouri on August 5, 1956 and they remained married until her death in July of 2015.
Wynn and Marilyn enjoyed their nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren and many friends in Atchison, Olathe and Dunedin, Florida where they resided for 13 years in retirement.
Both Wynn and Marilyn are survived by their daughter, Joyce Martin and husband J Martin of Baldwin City, Kansas. Granddaughter Jennifer Goodman and husband Joshua Goodman, Ava and Lillian, of Olathe, Kansas. Grandson Justin Martin and wife Tanja Emmerich of Dallas, Texas.
Graveside memorial services will be held in Hepler, Kansas at a future date. The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to: Good Shepard Hospice of Ottawa, Kansas.
