

He will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, uncle and friend. George was born on March 7, 1919 in Kansas City, MO., to Charles and Adelaide (Schleicher) Porter. He graduated from Central High School. He served his country honorably in WWII, then attended the University of Missouri (UMKC) where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy. George married the love of his life Florence M. Cloud on November 21, 1942 in New York City. He was employed by Pfizer Laboratories for over 33 years before his retirement. He was an active member of: The Kansas City Athletic Club, Leawood Country Club and the Missouri Yacht Club.
George is preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years Florence M. Porter who passed away on October 24, 2003, and their son, George Porter II, he is also preceded by 2 sisters: Marion Geier, Virginia Popplewell and 2 brothers: Charles Porter and Robert Porter.
Survivors include his children: Carol Kelly and her husband Larry of Denver CO., Barbara Lawler and her husband Jim of Denver CO. and Joseph Porter and his wife Donita of Olathe, KS. Left behind to cherish his memory are his three grandchildren: Anne Kelly, Stephen Kelly and Charles Porter.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 16 at the McGilley & Frye Funeral Home. The Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. to conclude the visitation. A memorial service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 17 at the Funeral Home. George was cremated according to his wishes.
