Hugo Ernst Horn

Hugo Ernst Horn, 92, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Friday, July 5, 2019 at Good Samaritan Society of Olathe. He will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to everyone he met.

Hugo was born on 21. September 1926 in Ebersgöns, Germany, to Heinrich and Regina Louise (Schneider) Horn. After escaping East Germany into West Germany, then immigrating to America, he learned the trade as a shoemaker and owned his own shoemaking business in Chicago. He relocated to San Diego, where he worked at the U.S. Naval Air Base as a welder until his retirement. Among Hugo’s greatest sources of pride included scoring 300, a perfect score in bowling, earning several awards in shoemaking workmanship and in welding work performance, and grilling perfect steaks for his family. Finally, he and his wife, Anni, spent their retirement in Las Vegas, before moving to Olathe.

Being the last living child of the Horn family, Hugo is preceded in death by his parents, Heinrich and Regina Horn, and his siblings, Dora, Paula, Heinz, Helmut, and Ottilie “Tilli”. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Anni-Renate (Riemann) Horn; and children, Victor Horn and wife Sylvia of Vilsbiburg, Germany; Regina Monika (Horn) Göldel of Stephanskirchen, Germany; Petra Martha Horn-Marsh and husband Kester of Olathe, Kansas; Laura Alday Gonzales and husband Carlos of Murietta, California; and Kimberly Lee (Senter) Mokris and husband Mike of Shorewood, Illinois. He is also survived by grandchildren Melanie Zimmerman, Christoph Göldel, Rachel Rose, Ricke Rose, Renate Rose, Aryzona Marsh, Tymber Marsh, Natalie Gonzales, and Brittany Carver; and great-grandchildren Kiera Vincent Rose, Olive Jae Martinkus, Ava Toner, and Noah Carver.
