Jackie was born on July 8, 1947 in Paola, KS, the 4th of 9 children, and was raised in Osawatomie, KS. She played the French horn in band and was a cheerleader at Osawatomie High School. After graduating from high school in 1966, she worked for Wayne G. Fixley Insurance prior to moving to Olathe. She worked as a Secretary at Westview Elementary School and then spent many years as Office Manager for Ford Bohl & Associates. She attended Johnson County Community College for Interior Design, which led to her decorating career. She worked for Paint and Paper Connection in Olathe then moved with Rick’s Carpet to open Rick’s Carpet and Design Center, where she developed and managed all interior design aspects. Jackie was a devout member of The First United Methodist Church in Olathe. She was on staff and instrumental in the transition to and new opening of Grace United Methodist Church.
Jackie is known by her friends and family for her sweet-natured personality, unconditional kindness, and unwavering faith. Her happiness and smile could light up any room. She loved being outdoors in her many beautiful gardens and spending time with her late golden retrievers, Billy and Chloe. Jackie was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was a very talented artist and quilter, but her favorite pastime was undoubtedly her family. She was dedicated to attending all possible activities and events that her children and grandchildren participated in.
Jackie is survived by her children, Gregg (Patty) Fixley of St. Charles, MO and Lynn DeVoe of Olathe, KS. As well, by her 4 grandchildren, Hunter and Alyssa Fixley of St. Charles, Abbie DeVoe of Kansas City, and Dalton DeVoe of Olathe. She is also survived by her former husband, Mike Fixley and her siblings, Bill Powell, Brian Powell, Nancy Crowley, and Marsha Madl. Jackie was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Alice Powell and her siblings, Clark Powell, Judy Branch, Mike Powell, and Tommy Powell.
A visitation for Jackie is scheduled for 10 am Saturday, June 1 at Grace United Methodist Church in Olathe, KS. Her celebration of life will succeed the visitation at 11 am with a reception to follow.
