Jerry Lee Showalter

Jerald (Jerry/Lumpy) Lee Showalter was born in Baldwin City, KS on February 20, 1939 to Prentis and Ethel Showalter (Moody). He lived his childhood in Baldwin then after meeting his wife Karen they made Olathe, KS their home with their 3 children, Kelly, Jeep and Jeff. But for the last 19 years he has loved living on his 5 acre homestead in Garnett, KS gardening and riding his lawnmower.

Lumpy was preceded in death by his father and mother. He is survived by his wife of 54 years Karen, daughter Kelly Newport,(husband Dick), son Jeep, son Jeff (wife Kelly), stepdad Bob Moody (wife Gerry), grandchildren, Jessica Franklin (husband Bryan), Louie Newport, Allison Showalter, Karlyn Showalter, Madeline Showalter, Grace Showalter and Jackson Showalter. Great Granddaughter Ruby Franklin.

Jerry retired from Delco Battery Plant in Olathe after 32 years. He loved to play the drums in the country band Bob Moody and The Renegades before he started his family. He was a lifelong active member of the Faternal Order of Eagles, #700 of Olathe. While a member of the Eagles he was President several terms and on their ritual team. Jerry loved coaching baseball, he coached many kids from the Olathe area and was instrumental in getting Junior Legion Baseball started in Olathe. After retirement he fulfilled his dream of owning a bar – Lumpy’s, it was one of those bars “where everyone knew your name”! He also enjoyed being part of the Spirit Rail Trail group in Garnett, KS.

Most importantly Jerry loved spending time with his family, whether it was sitting around a bonfire at their place in Garnett, or shooting off fireworks at our annual 4th of July celebrations family came first.

The family is grateful for all the love and support they have received from family and friends during his illness. They were blessed by so many, especially Olathe Medical Center Hospice. In lieu of flowers they suggest donations to Hospice or Olathe Youth Baseball.
