John Lewis, born April 28, 1935, in Dodge City, KS, passed away Sunday, August 8 in Conyers, GA. John grew up in Dodge City, along with 3 brothers and 6 sisters. John served in the Army from 1958 – 1960. John was a barber in Newton, KS from 1960 to 1978 and sold cars at Holstine Motors and Resnik Motors in Newton and Lacy Regehr in McPherson, KS from 1978 to 2004.
Jan Nichols Lewis, born April 26, 1936, in Harper, KS, passed away on Saturday, September 18, 2021, in Conyers, GA. Jan spent most of her youth in Pittsburg, KS. Jan had 1 brother, Robert Nichols. She graduated from Goshen College in Goshen, IN with a Home Economics Education degree. She first taught Home Ec. at Hesston Academy in Hesston, KS. Then taught Home Ec. at Berean Academy for 32 years.
John and Jan were married November 11, 1960, and settled in Newton, KS. They were members of First Church of the Nazarene in Newton for over 40 years, very active in the music ministry and in church leadership. Jan retired from teaching in 2002 and John retired in 2004. In December 2004 they moved to Olathe, KS to be close to family in the area. In November 2020 they went to live with family in Conyers, GA as health issues were mounting.
Surviving are their daughters, Janna Weyrauch, married to Doug, of Conyers, GA and Jeri Halvorson, married to Scott, of Overland Park, KS. Their four grandchildren and their spouses are Joel and Kimberly Weyrauch, Mark Weyrauch, Janessa and Kyle Ford and Nick and Kenzie Halvorson. They have five great grandchildren. Landon and Mason Weyrauch, Kade and Jillian Ford and Marlie Halvorson. John is also survived by one sister, Clara Beadle and one brother, Jim Burr.
The family of John and Jan Lewis would like to express our deepest appreciation for everyone’s love and prayers as we begin to navigate life without them. The shared memories from all of you, along with the many phone calls, flowers, cards, and loving words mean a great deal to all of us. A private family inurnment will take place at a later time.
We would also like to thank College Church of the Nazarene for ministering to our parents and helping with so many arrangements. A special thanks to Daniel Vanderpool, Merritt Nielson, Marla Shank and Katrina Dearing for so generously sharing their time and talents with us.
