John Lawrence Lindsay

June 12, 1958 - June 27, 2026

On this day, June 27, 2026, John Lawrence Lindsay passed away peacefully at the age of 68 years. John was the first son of John Sr. and Shirley Lindsay born in 1958, Norfolk, Virginia. John spent his early life through his young adulthood living in several midwestern states ultimately completing high school in Rockford, Illinois. Once graduated John turned his talents toward professional machining for the automotive and aerospace industries working initially as an apprentice at several large facilities in Rockford.

John would move on from these early days using traditional analog milling and turning equipment to become a much sought-after specialized technician in significantly more complex Computer Numerical Control machining systems. These skills enabled John to take key positions over the years in firms across multiple states including Washington State, Arizona and Texas, ultimately retiring from the trade at his last employer in Austin completing a long and successful career that had begun in the 1970s.

John was an avid and talented guitar player. John’s journey to learn the guitar, starting as a six year, old became a lifelong connection and love for the instrument. Music was a central component of John’s personality and creativity. He would very much wish to be remembered as a guitarist and one who was very fond of collaborating and sharing his talents with those around him. Fortunately the family has been able to save John’s many recordings and collaborations so that these performances and compositions can still be heard by family and friends for years to come.

John was throughout life adventurous and eager to explore new places, new hobbies and new communities of friends and neighbors. These adventures usually involved the outdoors where John would often explore new wild lands and parks especially where good kayaking was to be had. Commensurate with these adventures, John was an organized fellow and took pride in being prepared and ready for what’s ahead, more so that the planning for an upcoming kayak trip for example may have been half of the fun of the adventure. Here too we knew John took pride in being a person who was capable of meeting many challenges and adept so that pursuing something wholly new was met with excitement and not hesitation. John truly personified the phrase, quam bene vivas refert non-quam diu, or living well matters far more than simply living long.

John is survived by his family: sisters Debbie Bedosti, Tierney Bowles and brother Francis Lindsay; nephews: Riley Bowles, Ian Pinsker-Lindsay; and niece: Victoria Bedosti. John is also survived by his much loved Russian tortoise, Henry, who remains still loved and living with the family. John was a recent resident of Lawrence Kansas and had passed there. His move back to the midwest was cut short but was long enough to reconnect to many of his friends who had remained in the area. The family is planning a remembrance event to take place in the coming months where information will be shared with all friends and family.
