June Rose Hewlett

June 25, 1933February 19, 2018

June Rose Rainbow Hewlett was born June 25, 1933, in Shefford, England and passed away at Overland Park Regional Medical Center on February 19, 2018. She was the daughter of Ethel Bland Rainbow and Ralph Rainbow. Her parents, sister, Betty Rainbow Jackson and brothers, Frank, Pete, and Edwin Rainbow preceded her in death. Sister-in-law Maureen Rainbow of Shefford, England and son Paul (Helen) of Chelmsford, England survive.

June married the love of her life, Frank Hewlett, while he was stationed in England on March 8, 1952. The couple raised three children—Gary (Kay Ann) Hewlett of Wamego, Kansas, Lesley (Lee) Holmes of Olathe, and Denise (Chris) Hynes of Belton, Texas. She was the loving grandmother of grandsons Matt (Jennifer), Nathan (Sara), Josh (Amanda), Alex (Makayla), Zach, granddaughter Kylie (Manuel) and great-grandchildren Emily, Caroline, Kelsie, Kaleb, Leah, Tate, Ashtyn, Kaden, Oliver, Manuelito, and Kamila. All family was especially important to June always.

Being an Air Force wife was June’s lifelong vocation, often requiring June to be the head of the household for months at a time. Being a military family offered the opportunity for world-wide travel and lifelong memories. The friends Frank and June made while in service of our country were lasting and treasured. Other than family, June cherished her homeland of England and returned often for extended visits. She never lost her English accent, which was a joy for all of her grandchildren! She introduced her grandchildren and great-grandchildren to afternoon tea and many English foods.

Friends may greet the family on Monday, February 26 from 10:00 -11:00 AM at McGilley & Frye Funeral Home, 105 East Loula, Olathe, Kansas 66061, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM. Burial will take place at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, 13901 Blackbob Road, Olathe, Kansas.

Memorial contributions are suggested for Aberdeen Village, where June spent the last few months of her life. While there, everyone knew Frank and June as a loving couple. They came to know and love the staff and residents at Aberdeen.

My parents, Betty and Bill Mance, were long-time friends of June and Frank going back to the 1950's in England. Betty has been very upset over June's unexpected passing and wishes to let you know that she is thinking of you at this time, as are we.
