Katharina “Kay” Anna Stewart (née Tramèr), 92, died November 12, 2011 at Good Samaritan Center in Olathe, Kansas, with her son by her side. Katharina was born May 1, 1919 in Bern, Switzerland. She was the daughter of Rudolf and Helene (Schweizer) Tramèr.
Katharina worked as an interpreter/translator for the Office of Chief of Counsel for War Crimes in Nuremberg, Germany after World War II. She came to the United States in 1949 after her first husband, Frank Ristau, an Air Force pilot, died in a training accident. She became a naturalized citizen in 1954. She enjoyed traveling, reading, exercise, music, playing games, and gardening.
Survivors include son Paul Stewart (Holly Whitney), brother, Markus (Lydia) Tramèr, sister, Jenny Tramèr, grandson, Peter Stewart, and one great-grandson, Dominic. She was preceded in death by her second husband, James H. Stewart, daughter, Linda Ristau Stewart, and brother, Heinrich Tramèr.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, November 28 at Good Samaritan Center, 20705 West 151st Street, Olathe, Kansas. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Irondequoit (NY) United Church of Christ, 644 Titus Ave, Rochester, NY 14617, where Kay was a a long-time member.
