Kimberly was born on May 2, 1975, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Stephen and Catherine Kinsella, the second of seven children.
Kimberly is survived by her daughter, Breanna Walter, and Breanna’s beloved cat, Midnight; her daughter, Makenzie Kinsella; and her two grandsons, Nathaniel and Josiah, whom Makenzie shares with her fiancé, Kobe Coit.
She is also survived by her six siblings: Michelle (Kinsella) Pabst and her husband, Shawn; Lisa (Kinsella) Cooper and her husband, Robert, and their children, Ryan, Scott, and Charlie; Stephen Kinsella and his wife, Clarice, and their children, Ian and Liam; Christopher Kinsella and his life partner, Jajhaira Soberanis, and their children, Tiana and Kai; Marcus Kinsella and his beloved dog, Webster.
Kimberly’s father, Stephen, later married Sharon Balk-Kinsella. Through Sharon, Kimberly also became part of a blended family that included Sharon’s daughters, Amy and her husband, Patrick Jacolenne, and Rebecca Bracey, along with Rebecca’s four children, Jaden, Triniti, Liam, and Jenna Bracey.
Kimberly worked for many years in food service. Health challenges during the last 15 years of her life eventually made full-time work impossible and led to an early retirement. Even so, whenever she felt well enough, Kim found ways to stay busy, serve others, and remain connected. She especially enjoyed working in the nursery at City Center Church in Lenexa, caring for children, and attending the church’s Friday evening women’s group. She also expressed her creativity through her home business, making and selling flower arrangements.
One of the most meaningful parts of Kimberly’s life was helping people who were struggling. Having experienced life on a limited income herself, she became remarkably knowledgeable about food pantries, churches, charities, and community resources throughout Johnson County. If someone needed help, Kim often knew where to send them—or would find out. She shared resource lists and helped people find food, clothing, toys, and other necessities.
Cooking was another way Kim cared for others. She loved preparing meals for people going through difficult circumstances and was generous in practical ways—a meal, groceries, clothing, toys, a resource list, or simply knowing where someone could turn.
Those who knew Kimberly knew there was no one quite like her. Due to a traumatic brain injury in childhood, she could be feisty, opinionated, and occasionally short on patience, yet also incredibly generous, compassionate, and caring. She could bless your heart, test your patience, make you laugh, and make you mad—all in the same conversation. But she never pretended to be anyone other than herself.
Kimberly was preceded in death by her mother, Catherine Kinsella.
A Celebration of Life honoring Kimberly will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at City Center Church in Lenexa, Kansas
