Lee Irvin “Cowboy” Atkeson, 79, of Olathe, KS passed away Monday, November 19, 2012 at the Olathe Medical Center. A Memorial Gathering will be held from 5-7pm, Tuesday, November 27th at McGilley & Frye Funeral Home.
Lee was born on July 2, 1933 in Osceola, MO to Robert and Mable (Mason) Atkeson. He proudly served his country as a heavy equipment operator in the Marine Corp. On June 5, 1953 he married the love of his life, Patricia Roark. To this union were born their two children, James and Debbie. Lee worked for the Union Pacific Rail Road as a Conductor, retiring in 1994 after 46 years of service. He was most notable for serving as the Conductor on the Eisenhower Funeral Train. Mr. Atkeson was a member of the Junior Old Timers, VFW, American Legion and Past Local Chairman for the Union Pacific Union. He thoroughly enjoyed traveling and going to car shows. He was also an avid sports fan as he loved to cheer on the KU Jayhawks, K-State Wildcats and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Mr. Atkeson was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 3 sisters.
Lee is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Patricia Atkeson, son James R. Atkeson and daughter, Debbie Lintner and many nieces and nephews. Offer your condolences for the family at www.McGilley-Frye.com
