

Leo Francis Nelson, 91, of Olathe, KS, passed away January 10, 2011. Visitation will be from 5-7pm, Wednesday, January 12, at McGilley & Frye Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 13, at the funeral home with burial following in Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Stanley, KS. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Olathe Medical Center Hospice House Fund.
Leo was born on September 21, 1919 in Spring Hill, KS to Francis and Josephine Nelson. He served on the Civilian Conservation Corp and then as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a master brick mason who helped build Ewing Kauffman’s home, Ruskin Heights High School and most proudly the family home in Olathe. Leo was a very loving and loyal husband, father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Daphne “Dee” Nelson; 6 sisters, Vivian Baker-Edwards, Mildred Huston, Bonnie Kinnison, Juaneta Papetti, Ada Perry, and Jackie Venable.
Mr. Nelson is survived by his sons, Gregory F. Nelson of Wichita, KS and Kirk A. Nelson of St. Louis, MO; daughter, Mary Womble of Concord, CA; sister, Geri Ricky of Overland Park, KS; 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
