Linda was born July 3, 1948 in Kansas City, Missouri to Carl D. and Ella Mae Wilson. She spent her youth in California before moving to Olathe, Kansas in her early teens, graduating from Olathe Senior High in 1966. She married Richard A. Lowery in December 1966 and relocated to Marietta, Georgia. She returned home to Olathe in 1969 as a single mom and began her career as a legal secretary.
Linda was known as a warm and caring person with a wonderful sense of humor and ability to make all of those around her feel welcomed and loved.
She had a special compassion for all animals, especially cats. There was never a time she was without a cuddly kitty in her home. She volunteered her time at The Great Plains SPCA in Merriam, (formerly Animal Haven), as well as rescuing and caring for countless strays throughout her life. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. Her home was always warm and comforting for family gatherings such as holiday dinners with plenty of food, fun and conversation. She always came up with a silly game for all of us to participate in while the turkey was cooking.
Linda had a special bond with her son Rick; they enjoyed weekly dinners out, movies, and Sunday afternoon football games. Go Chiefs! Although she was an avid Chiefs fan, she also supported the Green Bay Packers and delighted in bragging about her cousin Jordy Nelson, No. 87!! Linda was a creative, self-sufficient “do it yourselfer” and took pride in remodeling, painting, decorating, fixing and building things in her home. Her many nieces and nephews relished time spent with Aunt Linda doing arts and crafts, scrapbooking, creating silly costumes, star gazing, swimming, baking and having ice cream sundae night. She was a huge fan of Jeopardy, The Walking Dead, Sci-Fi movies such as Star Trek, Star Wars and The X-Files. She was politically astute and followed politics closely.
Linda is survived by her son, Rick Lowery of Olathe, KS; three brothers Dan Wilson of Longmont, CO, Jerry Wilson and wife Robin of Beaverton, OR, Steve Wilson and wife Georgia of West Bloomfield, MI; sister Suzy Ryan of Louisburg, KS; nephews Jesse Wilson, Eric Ruppel, Aaron Wilson and Jared Brown; nieces Miranda Duncanson, Kirstie Brown, Katie Wilson and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. followed by a Memorial Service on Friday, March 31, 2017 at the McGilley-Frye Funeral Home in Olathe.
Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life Gathering at Conestoga Estates Clubhouse, 1199 E Santa Fe St, Gardner, KS 66030 beginning at 6:30 p.m. featuring some of Linda’s favorite food, pizza, brownies and cherry pie.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to The Great Plains SPCA or any animal shelter of your choice in Linda’s name.
