Mary Louise Barthol, 89, of Baldwin City, Kan., passed away April 8, 2010, at Good Samaritan Care Center. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at Annunciation Catholic Church, 740 N. 6th St., Baldwin City, Kan. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery, Lenexa, Kan. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 12, 2010, at McGilley & Frye Funeral Home, 105 E. Loula, Olathe, Kan., with a rosary at 6 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Annunciation Catholic Church or Hospice of Olathe Medical Center.
Mary born July 18, 1920, to Remie and Ellen Brulez in Shawnee, Kan. She married Frank H. Barthol in 1947 in Lenexa. She lived in Olathe, Kan., for more than 20 years before moving to Baldwin City in 1978. She was well-known for her beautiful quilts, many of which she donated to her church. Mary loved gardening, baking, and most of all, caring for others, both young and old.
She will be dearly missed by many whose lives were touched by her kindness. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Frank, in 1983, and her sister Gladys Early in 2003.
Mary is survived by her son Frank E. Barthol and wife Kathy Smith; daughter Marilyn Bowser and husband Bob and granddaughter Karen Badgett and husband Thomas.
