Mary Jane Platt, 90, passed away on June 30, 2026. Born on July 21, 1935, in Ness City, Kansas, Mary was the daughter of Fred Braun and Elma Jane (Foos) Braun. She lived in Olathe, Kansas, the majority of her life, where she raised her sons and built a life marked by steady devotion, abiding faith, and the deep love of a family-centered heart.
Mary worked in accounting at Telecom, where she later retired. Her years of work reflected the same dependable spirit that shaped the rest of her life—quietly committed, conscientious, and devoted to doing things well.
Mary was married to Ed Platt, and together they shared a life rooted in home and family. Mary’s love for her family—especially her boys—was a defining part of who she was, expressed in countless everyday ways and in the care she gave so freely.
In her personal life, Mary found joy in simple, meaningful pleasures: reading, doing crossword puzzles, quilting, and spending time outdoors visiting with neighbors when the weather was nice. Over a lifetime, she created many beautiful quilts—enduring pieces that reflected patience, warmth, and a devoted hand. Above all, Mary loved the Lord and faithfully looked forward to monthly visits from Pastor Kahle. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Olathe, Kansas.
Mary is survived by her brother, Gerald Braun along with her nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Elma Jane Braun; her husband, Ed Platt; her sister, Margaret Cornell; her brother, Leonard Braun; and her four sons, Ronald D’s, Zordel, Randall D Zordel, Rodney D. Zordel, and Roger D. Zordell
