

Michael Scott Meisenhelter, 52, of Shawnee, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, November 4, 2015. He will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, son, brother, uncle and friend to everyone he met.
Michael was born on March 3, 1963, in Baltimore, Maryland to Charles Samuel and Barbara Ann (Meldum) Meisenhelter. He attended and graduated from Patch American High School. He served his country honorably in the Marine Corps from 1990-1998. Michael joined the Kansas Army National Guard on February 3, 2006, and obtained the rank of chief warrant officer 2. He deployed with the 714th Security Forces and the 287th Sustainment Brigade in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Michael married the love of his life Carolyn Miller on December 21, 1989. Through this union their son Nick was born. His compassion for fellow soldiers and friends gave him the courage to fight for justice and to be a leader and mentor to those in need. These qualities gave him the opportunity to help them in any way he could. Michael was a talented musician and performer. He enjoyed collecting music from his favorite artists, going to the movies and smoking his favorite cigars with his friends. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him.
Michael is preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Ann Meisenhelter. He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years Carolyn Meisenhelter, their son Nick and his father Charles Meisenhelter. Left behind to cherish his memory are his two brothers, Chris Meisenhelter and his wife Mary, Chuck Meisenhelter and his wife Diana, two sisters, Becky Anderton and her husband David and Cammy Reynolds and her husband Todd. Michael is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Michael will be cremated according to his wishes. Internment with Military Honors 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 10, 2015 in Leavenworth National Cemetery Leavenworth, Kansas. Visitation will be 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service at the McGilley & Frye Funeral Home 105 East Loula St. Olathe, Kansas. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to: The Wounded Warrior Project.
