

The family resided in Steinauer until Dick was 6 years old, at which time they moved to Junction City, Kansas, where his father worked as a barber at Ft Riley. While in Junction City, Dick attended St. Xavier Grade School and High School. He then attended Kansas State University in Manhattan, Ks. After college he was drafted into the Army, where he served his country for four years. After his discharge from the Army, he worked for Duckwall, Inc. and spent his entire career working in retail sales and marketing. After his retirement, he did volunteer work at Mahaffie Farmstead, where he led school groups and at Christmas portrayed Father Christmas and later Santa Claus. He also enjoyed, along with his wife Nancy, traveling the United States, going to auctions, and collecting coins and other memorabilia.
He leaves his wife of 45 years, Nancy, of the home, daughter Julie Creek (Tim), of Olathe, KS, son Matthew Klein of Overland Park, KS and daughter Sara Klein of Sanford, FL. He also leaves six grandchildren, Shannon (Bouba) Soumana-Boureima of Greensboro, NC, Tim Creek, Jr. (Chandlar) of Derby, KS, Megan Hardie (Randy) of Belton, MO, Kelsie Karigan (Cale) of Louisburg, KS, Hanna Kerschenske(Jacob)of Platte City, MO, and Wyatt Creek(Paige) of Lenexa, KS. He also leaves 5 great-grandchildren Paisley, Cooper, and Sylvie Creek all of Derby, KS, and Emilia and Hampton Karigan, and baby Karigan to be born in April, all of Louisburg, KS.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 11, 2023 from 6 – 8pm at McGilley and Frye Funeral Home. Memorial Service will be Thursday, January 12, 2023 at 12pm at St. Paul Catholic Church, Olathe, KS. Burial will be at Olathe Cemetery at a later date.
