Nina was born on January 21, 1936, to Andrew and Anna (Licavoli) Garofalo in St. Louis, MO. After Nina graduated from Normandy High School, she went on to work at Southgate Bank. She also co-owned Bakers Rack cake decorating and candy-making supply store, with her best friend forever, Dorothy Pierceall.
Nina was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Anna Garofalo; two brothers, William and Robert Garofalo; and sister Marian Close.
She is survived by her sister, Rose Emery; daughter, Patti Young; four grandchildren, Andrea Runyon, William J. Young, Robert J. Young, and Jonathan E. Zakarian; and four great-grandchildren, Oliver Young, Scarlett Young, Kate Runyon, and Caroline Runyon.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 8, 2023, at Brookridge Park Shelter House, 10100 Lowell Ave, Overland Park, KS 66212. An inurnment will be October 16th in St. Louis, MO. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations can be made to KC Pet Project.
