Oscar D. West III passed away surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, September 17, 2024. He will forever be remembered as a loving father, husband, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend to everyone he knew.
Oscar was born on July 27, 1930, in Kansas City, Missouri to Oscar D. West II and Gladys E. (Davis) West. He attended and graduated from Central High School in Kansas City, Missouri, and then, went on to earn his bachelor's Degree in Agriculture at Missouri (Mizzou) University in Columbia Missouri. Oscar served his country honorably in the United States Air Force. After his time in the Air Force, he met and married the love of his life Thelma Hobson. Together they raised their two children Oscar IV and Carolyn.
Oscar worked in the Banking industry as a Loan Officer. He was a dedicated member of the Wellsville United Methodist Church. He enjoyed raising his cattle, gardening including vegetables, flowers, and trees that he planted so proudly, and spending time with his family. Nothing gave him more pleasure in life than the time he spent on his farm with his son and grandchildren. He will be sadly missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents Oscar II and Gladys West, his loving wife, Thelma, of 60 years who passed away on April 30, 2022, and his sister Helen Rennie. Those who will cherish his memories are his son Oscar D. West IV and his wife Kara of Wellsville, Kansas, and his daughter Carolyn G. Hickey and her husband Colin of Rockwall, Texas including his four grandchildren Oscar West V, Dwight West, Katelyn West, and Alexander Hickey.
Oscar will be cremated according to his wishes. A private family inurnment in Pleasant Valley Cemetery will take place at a later date.
