Phillip Nolan Richardson, 87, of Overland Park, Kansas passed away surrounded by his loving family on Monday, August 8, 2022. He will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, uncle and friend to everyone he knew.
Phillip was born on January 9, 1935 in Macon, Missouri to Dwight D. and Ollie L. (Johnston) Richardson. After graduation from Macon High School, he attended Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Illinois where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business. Phillip served his country honorably in the U.S. Army and was stationed for two years in Germany. At Olivet, he met the love of his life, Sharon Ardith Myers, and they were married on November 20, 1962. Together they raised their three children, Lonnie, Todd and Staci.
Phillip worked for the Nazarene Publishing House for 14 years after graduating from Olivet. He then returned to the college and served as its bookstore manager for 21 years. Upon retirement, the family moved back to the Kansas City area. He was a member at Central Church of the Nazarene in Lenexa, Kansas and served as a greeter there for many years. He enjoyed gardening, refinishing woodwork, cross-stitching and talking with friends. Phillip also enjoyed spending time with his family. Nothing gave him more pleasure in life than the time he spent with his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed.
Phillip is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Reed Richardson. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty years Sharon Richardson, two sons, Lonnie S. Richardson and his wife Melody of Louisburg, Kansas, Todd P. Richardson and his wife Rebekah of Medford, Oregon, and his daughter Staci A. Leatherland of Olathe, Kansas. Left behind to cherish his memory are his ten grandchildren, Carter (Meredith) Richardson, Alexandra (Brice) Kudej, Davis Richardson, Sawyer Richardson, Josiah (Leah) Richardson, Keziah Richardson, Caedyn Leatherland, Lacey Leatherland, McKenna Leatherland and Tori Leatherland.
Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at Central Church of the Nazarene, 12600 West 87th Street Parkway, Lenexa, Kansas. The funeral service will also be at Central immediately following visitation at 2:00 p.m. Internment with Military Honors will follow the funeral at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, 13901 South Black Bob Road, Olathe, Kansas.
