Robert Allen Sorter, 71, of Shawnee, Kansas passed away on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at Kansas City Hospice House. He will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, brother, uncle and friend to everyone he knew.
Robert was born on October 22, 1949 in Kansas City, Missouri to Robert Louis and Wilma (Stalcup) Sorter. Bob’s faith in Christ was inspiring, his work ethic was incredible, his sense of humor endearing and his love for his wife Connie, their two sons, Shawn and Scott and his two sisters Marsha and Donna was constant and unchanging.
Bob came to Christ as a boy after attending a Vacation Bible School in North Kansas City. As a young adult he attended a Daniel and Revelation seminar in Kansas City, Missouri, and thereafter he enthusiastically joined the Seventh-day Adventist Church and remained a faithful member for the rest of his life. He was an elder in the church and gave many sermons from time to time.
Bob was a Systems Analyst, and a civilian employee of the U S Marine Corps serving to ensure their payroll was correct and on time. He was a political Conservative. Bob loved to perform his famous magic tricks to the amazement of random children he encountered waiting for a seat to open at a restaurant. Bob remained childlike in many ways enjoying children, playing games with them, climbing on the bottom support of a grocery cart and riding it to his car in the parking lot.
He loved his time with granddaughters Allie and Zoe and holding granddaughter Phoenix in his chair and playing Legos with her.
He loved the Kansas City Chiefs and along with the rest of Kansas City waited for a half a century for them to return to the Super Bowl! And he never lost faith that this could be the year. And he got to see it happen! He was also a Kansas City Royals fan and thoroughly enjoyed the 2014 and 2015 World Series that saw them play back to back and then win in 2015. What most do not know is that he loved to play hockey (he was an excellent goalie) as well as to play rugby.
Bob loved to study the Bible. So much so that he continued to give Bible studies to various people throughout his lifetime as a believer.
Bob never met a stranger; they were just a friend he hadn’t met yet.
He sang in the Olathe Adventist Church Choir which his wife Connie lead. He wrote the script to many of the music dramas performed at Chapel Oaks SDA Church as well as acting in them. One of his reoccurring lines he liked to write into his plays which focused on the death of Jesus on the Cross was, “Time stood still... then started back up again.”
Well Bob, we will dearly miss you, and for you time indeed stands still. But... we know because of our faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, it will soon start back up again. See you in the morning Bob!
Bob is survived by his loving wife Connie Sorter, sons Shawn Sorter and his wife Missy and Scott Sorter; granddaughters Allie Sorter, Zoe Sorter, and Phoenix Sorter; sisters Marsha Book and her husband Christopher and Donna Foster; brother-in-law E.J. Irish; nieces Maren Bradlay and MacKenzie Foster; nephew Kyle Weishar; grandnieces, a grandnephew and many cousins.
A “Celebration of Life” will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, September 10, 2021 at the Chapel Oaks SDA Church, 6245 Monticello, Shawnee, Kansas 66226. The family would like for those in attendance to feel free to wear Chief’s attire.
