Roger graduated from Olathe North High School and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in computer science from Johnson County Community College. From the beginning, he carried himself with a steady sense of purpose—someone who believed in showing up, doing the work well, and following through.
For more than 40 years, Roger served Johnson County as a Technical Support Analyst, a role he truly loved. His long tenure reflected not only skill and dedication, but also a deep reliability—an enduring commitment to the people and systems that depended on him day after day.
Roger’s loyalty was a defining part of his life, perhaps most clearly in the devotion he held for his mother. “See to Mother” was more than a phrase; it captured the steadfast care and
sense of responsibility that guided him.
Outside of work, Roger found lasting enjoyment in keeping many different types of fish—a passion he had carried since childhood. In that quiet, attentive pursuit, the same patience and constancy that marked his life were easy to see.
Roger is preceded in death by his father Dwayne Zordel; brothers Randall Zordel, Rodney Zordel, and Ron Zordel; uncle Leonard Braun and his aunt Margaret Cornell.
He is survived by his loving mother Mary Jane Platt of Olathe, Kansas
