Ronald “Ron” G. Walker, age 71, passed away Saturday, December 21, 2019 at his home in Olathe, KS following a brief illness. He will forever be remembered as a loving father, grandpa, brother, uncle, friend and neighbor.
Ron was born on July 20, 1948 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Clark L. and Margaret (Kalina) Walker who preceded him in death.
He is survived by his 2 daughters: Jill Horne of Ladera Ranch, California and Nicole Walker, of Kansas City, Kansas, brother Lanny Walker of Pleasant Hill, Missouri and grandson Jackson Walker Horne of Ladera Ranch, California in addition to many close friends, cousins, nephews and nieces.
Ron was a 1966 graduate of Van Horn High School then earned his bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Central Missouri’s class of 1970.
In his early years, Ron struggled with addiction but became sober on December 25th, 1985. He then knew it was his purpose in life to help people and support those also in recovery. He became a Substance Abuse Counselor for Johnson County Department of Corrections Residential Center until his retirement in 2010.
Ron enjoyed spending time with his daughters and grandson, fishing, arts and crafts, and watching his favorite sports. Nothing gave him more pleasure in life than offering advice, supporting and just being a confidant for those who needed one.
Memorial visitation will be from 1:00pm to 3:00pm on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at the McGilley and Frye Funeral home in Olathe, KS. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
