

William James Vietze, 67, of Olathe, Kansas passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at Meadowbrook Rehabilitation Center in Gardner, Kansas. He will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, grandpa, bepa, brother, uncle and friend to everyone he met. Bill was born on June 16, 1945 in Manhattan, Kansas to Walter Otto and Maybel (Jackson) Vietze. He attended and graduated from Herrington High School in 1963. He then joined the U.S. Army in 1966. He served his country honorably and was decorated with medals in sharp shooting . In 1971 he began working at Hubbard Lumber Company in Ottawa, Kansas until the mid-70’s. He then took his first construction job with Craig Phares, until branching out on his own with Vietze Construction Company. He continued working his own company for 27 years, after that Bill started his adventures of “The Junk Yard Dogs” , where he was still entertaining his friends until his death on January 17th. Bill is preceded in death by his parents: Walter and Maybel Vietze, three sisters Donna Spallino, Lilian Crawford, Mildred Haynes and one brother Eugene Vietze. Survivors include his kind, loving, beautiful wife of 10 years, Linda (Slaton) Vietze of the home. Bill was a loving father to all 8 of his beautiful daughters: Michelle Begay Black of Cherokee, Kansas, Tracie Dawn Vietze of Pomona, Kansas, Brandi Nicole Vietze of Ottawa, Kansas, Cheryl Lynn Leach and her husband Jeremy of Gardner, Kansas, Julie Massengale, Michelle Corbin, Christi Gerfen, Shannon Dennis, and son Greg Dennis. He will be sadly missed by numerous grandkids and two great grandkids along with many nieces and nephews. Bill is also survived by his brother Walter Ernie Vietze of Raytown, Missouri and sister Patricia Piper of Salina, Kansas. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at the McGilley & Frye Funeral Home 105 East Loula Street Olathe, Kansas 66061. Interment with Military Honors in DeSoto Cemetery, DeSoto, Kansas. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening January 22, 2013 at the funeral home., Memorial contributions may be made to: "The Family".
