Christian F. Sommer (Chris), 77 years old, of Union Beach, NJ, passed away after a long illness. Born in Passaic, New Jersey, he resided in Bayonne, New Jersey also a resident of Cape Coral, Florida for 17 years, before moving to Union Beach. Chris was a Veteran of the Korean War, serving in the US Navy. He was a Bayonne Police Officer for 18 years and a Sea Bright Police Officer serving as a Sergeant, until his retirement in 1986. He was predeceased by his daughter, Jacqueline Sommer. He leaves his wife, Mary A. Sommer; four sons, Mark, Christian Jr., Peter, and David Sommer, all of New Jersey; 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Chris was an avid Yankees fan and he played soft ball his entire life. Chris will be cremated and a memorial service will be held July 18, 2012 at his daughter’s gravesite, where his remains will be interred. Mary requests that you respect her grief and will be receiving no visitors at her home.
