

Demetrios “Jimmy” Spathis, 83 of Old Bridge, entered peacefully into eternal life Sunday, February 3, 2013 at home surrounded by family. He was a ‘Five Hat” Gourmet Chef. During his career he worked at Sardis in the City and then owned The Rivoli Restaurant for a short time in NYC, before becoming the Head Gourmet Chef at The Dorian Manor for 15 years, retiring in 1994. He loved his family and was an avid cook. Born and raised in Greece he was a Veteran of the Greek Naval Fleet before coming to America, proudly becoming a US Citizen. He settled in Brooklyn before moving to Old Bridge in 1966.
Demetrios was a life long member of St George Greek Orthodox Church in Piscataway. He was a kind, loving and devoted husband, father, brother, uncle & grandfather. He will be greatly missed by all who had known him.
He was predeceased by his son George in 1990. Surviving is his wife of 54 years Soola Spathis, a son Jerry of Old Bridge, a daughter Katerina & her husband Edward T. Gomolka of Spotswood, and 4 grandchildren, Kelli Anne, Jeanmarie, Larissa, and James.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the Michael Hegarty Funeral Home, 3377 US Hwy 9, Old Bridge. Funeral Services will be offered on Wednesday, February 6 at 10am from St George Greek Orthodox Church, 1101 River Rd. Piscataway, NJ 08854 phone 732-463-1642. Interment will follow at Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Old Bridge Turnpike, East Brunswick. In Lieu of Flowers, the family respectfull request considering a donation to the Compassionate Care Hospice, 833 NJ Rt. 37 Toms River, NJ 08755.
