

Herbert Gordon, 88, of Old Bridge died Friday, December 27, 2013 at Raritan Bay Medical Center in Old Bridge. Born in Manhattan, he was a life-long resident of the Bronx, NY before settling in Old Bridge in 1959 where he raised a family of his own. Herbert proudly served his country as Corporal in the US Marine Corps during WWII and participated in action in Okinawa. After honorably serving his country, Herbert became owner/operator of Oakdale Jewelers in Manhattan, NY for several years. While in New York, he was an active member of the Bronx Soundview Little League carrying his passion of the sport to New Jersey where he became one of the founding organizers of Old Bridge Sayrewoods South Little League serving as 1st Vice President. Herbert founded the Regional Young Democrats in Old Bridge and published the local newspaper “The Yachtsman”. Most recently he volunteered at the Old Bridge Library where his love and joy of reading led him to be hired.
Herbert is survived by his loving wife of 66 years Edna (Saet) Gordon; his 3 cherished daughters Tina Gordon, Mara (and John) Samuels, Erica (and Michael) Sorohan and his 3 devoted sons Richard Gordon, Paul Gordon and Michael Gordon. He is also survived by his dear grandchildren Jaime (and Mary) Ruiz, Justin Ruiz, Jenevieve Ruiz, Benjamin Sorohan, Emma Sorohan, Jay Samuels and Richard Gordon.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Memorial Visitation Sunday, December 29th 2pm – 6pm at Michael Hegarty Funeral Home, 3377 Hwy 9 Old Bridge, NJ 08857. Inurnment with full military honors will take place Tuesday, December 31st at 10am Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ.
