

Thomas Kelly, 95, of Holmdel and formerly of Middletown and of Old Bridge, passed away quietly on Monday morning at Bayshore Health Care Center, Holmdel. He was an engineer with the New York City Transit Authority for 28 years, retiring in 1977. He was a communicant of St Ambrose RC Church in Old Bridge for years and was an avid NY Yankees fan. Thomas was always a family man. Born in Manhattan, he was raised there and lived in the Bronx for many years before moving to Old Bridge where he lived for 25 years relocating to Middletown in 2003 and more recently to Holmdel. He is predeceased by his parents, Michael & Ellen nee Quinn Kelly, and his wife, the late Mabel nee Connelly Kelly of 47 years in 1986, and his son in law Michael Welstead in 1980. Thomas is survived by his daughters, Patricia Ann & her Husband John J. Byrne of Belle Mead and Joan Ellen Kelly of Atlantic Highlands. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Kelly Ann Lazicky Byrne, John Byrne, Thomas Byrne, Michael Welstead, Karen Dolan Welstead, Kimberly Welstead, and his great grandchildren, Matthew Lazicky, Kaitlyn Lazicky, Jack Patrick Byrne, Bridget Byrne, Daniel Byrne, Michael Colin Welstead, and McConaughey Byrne. Thomas also leaves his sister in law Irene Byrne of Lake Hopatcong. Friends may call on May 27, from 4-8pm at the Michael Hegarty Funeral Home, 3377 US Hwy 9, Old Bridge, NJ 08857. A Funeral Liturgy will be on Friday, May 28 at 10am from St. Ambrose RC Church, Throckmorton Lane, Old Bridge. Committal will follow at the Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick.
