
Warren Henry Habel, 92, of the Bronx, NY died Monday, March 23, 2015 at Summerhill Nursing Home in Old Bridge, NJ. He was born in the Bronx, NY on November 7, 1922 to the late Henry and Alice (Hardy) Habel where he remained a lifetime resident. He was a proud United States Navy veteran of WWII and recipient of the European Theater Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon and American Theatre Ribbon. On September 7, 1947 Warren married his beloved wife Marion.
Warren was a carpenter and boat builder for Wheeler Shipyards in Bronx, NY and his leisure hand built 3 canoes. He was a Local 94 fireman for over 20 years and worked for the New York City Board of Education. Until the age of 81, Warren was the caretaker of the First Presbyterian Church in the Bronx, NY.
Warren loved having a good time and was known for his great sense of humor. He enjoyed cooking, baking and feeding the birds but most of all he adored spending time with his grandchildren who affectionately called him "Pop“.
Warren is predeceased by his beloved wife of 57 years, Marion (Nelson) Habel (2004), his loving son Dwayne Habel (2007) and his dear brothers and sister, Roger Habel, William Habel and Alice Plsek. He is survived by his loving children Bruce Habel of Cushing, ME, Glenn K. (and his wife Geraldine) Habel of Old Bridge; his adored daughter-in-law Milan Habel; his dear brothers Henry Habel of Pennsylvania and Charles Habel of South Carolina and his cherished grandchildren Kristin, Ryan, Julianne, Liam and Melissa Habel.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend visitation Wednesday, March 25, 2015 from 2-4pm & 7-9pm at Michael Hegarty Funeral Home, 3377 Highway 9, Old Bridge, NJ 08857 with service taking place at 3:30pm on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at the funeral home. Cremation services will be private.
