A visitation for Barbara will be held Friday, April 19, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Hermitage Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, 535 Shute Ln, Old Hickory, TN 37138. Following visitation a memorial service will be held from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Hermitage Memorial Gardens, 535 Shute Lane, Old Hickory, TN. A graveside moment of remembrance will follow the service.
Barbara Buck Freese, born on September 7, 1935, in Tampa, Florida, peacefully passed away on April 7, 2024, at the age of 88 in Gallatin, Tennessee. She was the beloved wife of a pastor, a dedicated elementary teacher, a reference library assistant, and a lead church library consultant.
Barbara was a vibrant individual, full of life, kindness, and intelligence. Her friendly and excitable nature endeared her to all who knew her. She was deeply religious, baptized at the age of ten and found solace in her faith in Christ and as a Southern Baptist. Barbara was a member of Donelson First Baptist Church for several years, where she found spiritual fulfillment. As a church member over the years she was a Sunbeam as a child, Girls Auxiliary (GA's), attended Sunday School and Training Union. Worked as a Vacation Bible School (VBS) volunteer and enjoyed as a young adult attending conferences at Ridgecrest Baptist Assembly.
Years later, Barbara taught many times at Ridgecrest as a Lead Church Library Consultant for the Baptist Sunday School Board [now Lifeway]. Such courses as church library administration, church library space and furnishings, how to create a vertical file, church library budgeting, and church library promotion. As consultant she traveled all over the United States and specifically to Ridgecrest (Ashville, NC) and Glorieta Baptist Conference Centers (Santa Fe , NM) for church library weeks.
In her free time, Barbara enjoyed seashell and rock collecting, gardening, painting, baking, handicrafts, and solving puzzles. Her hobbies brought her joy and allowed her to express her creativity and love for nature. She adamantly adored the beach at Sanibel Island, Florida and spoke of it often.
She was a high school graduate at Plant High School in Tampa, Florida and graduated from Baylor University (Waco, TX) and Southern Illinois University (Carbondale, IL).
Barbara is survived by her sons John Stephen Freese, Daniel Denham Freese, and Robert Edward Freese. She was preceded in death by her father Cummie Corbit Buck, mother Linnie Cook Buck, and brother Robert Earl Buck.
A ceremony to honor and remember Barbara will be held Friday, April 19 at Hermitage Memorial Gardens, 535 Shute Lane, Hermitage, TN. The compassionate staff at Hermitage Memorial Gardens in Hermitage, TN, will be assisting with the funeral arrangements. Funeral and grave site services will be given by Rev. Gordon Donahue.
Now with her heavenly Father, Barbara Buck Freese will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace.
