Born in Nashville, he attended Madison High School and Middle Tennessee State University.
A long-time and active member of Hermitage Church of Christ, he served as an elder for many years, founded the Singles Again Ministry, was a weekly Bible teacher and a member of the mission team.
An industrial engineer, he was Director of Facility Engineering for the Fortune 500 company Genesco, Inc. for almost 40 years, during which time he was the recipient of the Award of Excellence in Industrial Engineering and the recipient of the coveted Superior Achievement Recognition Award (SARA). His career involved travel throughout the United States, Mexico and South America.
In addition to his career and church work, he also enjoyed talking about his grandchildren, flying private aircraft, his red Corvette convertible, bluegrass music, ham radios, architecture, electronics, photography, reading and studying modern machinery.
He is proceeded in death by his parents Charles Keith Goins, Sr. and Ruby Irene Hobson Goins; wives Sarah Fay (Cathey) Goins and Linda Diane (Bissett) Goins; and brother Michael Wayne Goins, Sr.
He is survived by daughters Karen (Steve) Shelton of Charlotte, North Carolina and Kimberly (Ronald) Franklin of Hermitage; stepsons Alan (Kendra) Churchman of Mount Juliet and James (Haley) Churchman of Midlothian, Texas; grandchildren Amanda Franklin, Chandra Franklin, Bryson Byrnes, Nolan Robinson, Ava Robinson, Corey Polk, Connor Polk, and Emily Shelton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
His favorite Bible verse was Jeremiah 29:11 and he quoted it often to his children and grandchildren, “For I know the plans I have for you,” says The Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and hope.”
A celebration of life service followed by a reception will be held on Saturday, February 26, 5:00 p.m. at Hermitage Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens located at 535 Shute Lane in Old Hickory. The service will also be livestreamed on the Facebook page belonging to Hermitage Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens.
