Charles was married to the love of his life, Elaine (Ortowski) Moore, for 57 years and was the cherished father of Daniel Moore and Lauren (Moore) HuYoung. He was also a devoted father-in-law to Mark HuYoung and a proud grandfather to Jack Moore, Brady HuYoung, Zoe HuYoung, Sadie HuYoung, and Layla HuYoung. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Marie Ziady, and his siblings Sam Moore, Aida Kamel, Tony Moore, and Kelly Moore. Charles is fondly remembered by his brother Mike (Ferial) Moore, sister Mouna Nassar, sisters-in-law Peggy Moore and Irma Moore, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will forever hold him in their hearts.
Charles grew up in a loving and supportive family, surrounded by the vibrant culture and traditions of his homeland. In the 1950s, at the young age of 21, Charles took a leap of faith and left Lebanon, immigrating to the United States with just $150 in his pocket. His unwavering determination and thirst for knowledge propelled him forward. Through hard work and perseverance, he earned a PhD in Chemistry. He later pursued a career as a college professor, sharing his passion for science with aspiring students. Charles's adventurous spirit and entrepreneurial drive led him to establish Moore Forest Industries, a successful company that capitalized on his love of undeveloped land. He recognized the importance of sustainable forestry practices and dedicated himself to responsible land management.
However, Charles's path was not solely driven by business ambitions. He felt a strong calling from the Lord to dedicate his time and resources to spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. This calling led him to join his brother in founding Thomas Nelson Publishers, which grew to become one of the world’s largest publishers of Bibles and Christian books. His spirit and dedication left an indelible mark on the publishing industry.
In 1975, Charles, alongside a group of dedicated individuals, founded Horton Haven Christian Camp, driven by a shared vision to "create a camp environment where people can come to know and follow Jesus Christ." This endeavor became a beacon of hope and spiritual growth for countless people seeking to deepen their faith and connect with their Creator.
In addition, he supported various ministries in the Middle East including three schools, caring for refugees and providing education to children.
Beyond his professional achievements and philanthropic endeavors, Charles found immense joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid tennis player, a passionate explorer of untouched wilderness, and a skilled bird hunter. However, his greatest joy came from spending quality time with his beloved family.
Charles Moore lived a life of purpose, leaving an enduring legacy of faith in God, love for family, and a deep commitment to making a difference in the world. His legacy will continue to inspire, and his memory will forever be cherished by all who knew him.
