Doris Marie (Arnold) Woodard, of Donelson/Hermitage, passed into eternal rest on February 17, 2024 at the age of 88. She was born August 28, 1935 in Huntland, TN, to Otis and Mamie Arnold. She was the oldest of four children: Blanche Mann; and the late Betty Hall and Ralph Arnold. A graduate of Franklin County High School, she worked in a garment factory before moving to Nashville where she was employed as a bookkeeper and secretary at King Nash Rambler. In 1957, she met her husband Roy through mutual friends at her boarding house on Elliston Place and they married in June of 1958. Doris and Roy grew their family with the addition of their daughter Christy in 1968 and then two years later their son Greg.
As a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker Doris spent the majority of her time lovingly caring for her husband, children, and home. Additionally, she worked part time as a bookkeeper for several Nashville businesses. Doris loved to shop for great bargains, jokingly saying she was saving more than she spent. She took great interest in making the things around her beautiful, and always wore her outfits perfectly accessorized. She also took joy in volunteering to make other people and places beautiful. For many years, she painted nails for residents of a local nursing home. She designed exquisite table and sanctuary decor for many church functions at Lakewood Baptist Church where she was a member for over 50 years. There also, she served on multiple committees and worked at countless church events making lifelong friends along the way. She was most recently a member of First Baptist Church Donelson, where she and Roy enjoyed many senior trips and events with beloved friends. Doris loved to travel and spent many happy vacations at the beach and in her favorite destination, Gatlinburg. She especially loved visiting her granddaughters, Ansley and Sydney, in Georgia.
Doris is survived by her husband of 65 years, Roy Woodard, her son Greg Woodard, her daughter Christy and son in law Mark Bowman, her beloved granddaughters Ansley (Christopher) Wallace and Sydney Bowman, as well as nephew Michael Mann and niece Cynthia Young.
