

Dorothy Penix, Left this earth a better place for having been here February 2, 1936 to July 18, 2015. She is preceded in death by mother and father, Flory and John Penix, Brother Jim, and sisters, Marie Slack and Peggy Bottoms. Survived by devoted friend and caregiver, Sandra Schmidt and devoted niece, Liz Shirley; plus three generations of nieces and nephews. She leaves behind a women’s support group – The Pot Luck Mamas and a large arena of friends. Ms. Penix loved learning and knew the importance of an education having attended Vanderbilt University, The University of Tennessee, Vanderbilt Owens Graduate School, and Wharton’s Business School. After retiring in 1994 as Executive Vice President of Hartman Luggage Co. in Lebanon, TN she volunteered for a number of years at Andrew Jackson Elementary School. She was an avid reader and traveler having been to all fifty states and over 35 foreign countries. Her true passion was animals and she taught and trained dogs at the Nashville Dog Training Club for several years. A private celebration and memorial of her life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please hug someone near and dear to you.
