It is hard to put into words how you feel about a man like Doug. He was no doubt one of a kind. Doug helped me more than once get through the grief of the loss of my family. To me he was the best in his profession.  He was not only a Christian 
but his life  was shown brightly and was always  there for everyone  else. His love for his family was exceptional yet, he made  sure that you knew he genuinely cared about your grief. I just recently  found out about the loss of Doug. I would like  to express my condolences to Ann and to his  beautiful  family who he loved dearly.  Love to all.

I am saddened by the death of Doug.  I have known him most of my 80 yrs.  Taught him @ John A Gupton college of Mortuary Science.  Worked with him at Hibbett, Hailey F.H. Doug was a good friend for many years.  I used to pastor a church in Donelson and have worked many funerals with Doug.  His compassion shown to the families was exemplary.  His attentiveness given to the entire service, from the removal to the grave was more than professional.  He treated the business as his own and viewed it more as a ministry than a business.  He was the face of Hermitage and Hibbitt and Hailey for many years and has left it in the very capable hands of his son, Brad.
I often wondered, not being a golfer myself, if his golf game was really as good as he said.
I know his love for the Lord was!
Doug you will be missed sorely.
Thank you to the family for sharing your husband and father with the community, I know personally that was a huge sacrifice on your part.   You will be in the prayers of many, many who loved him and loves you.

    Our hearts go out to the Raines family. Our deepest sympathies. I miss hanging out with Doug at the ball park. He had a quiet strength about him. This man was respected by all who knew him.  A true loss for our entire community.

My heart is heavy today at the news of this loss. I met Mr. and Mrs. Raines several years ago as his health care provider. It was always an absolute joy to see he and his wife come in for a visit. He was so sweet and had an infectious smile. The world has lost a wonderful man, and my heart goes out to his family and friends. 

Doug was a special, kind and caring person and he loved his family with all his heart. My thoughts, prayers and love are with all of you and I know the special memories you have will keep him alive in your hearts forever.

There are no words to describe the sadness we all feel,only know that we will see him again soon.My condolences to the family.

I’m saddened by the news of your loss. I met Doug in 1993 at the age of 23 when I moved from CT and started working at Hermitage. He was a guiding influence to me as I started what is now a long career in the funeral industry.

He was one of the best men I have ever known.

I know your family will miss him, but I also know how proud he was of his family.
