

Juanita was born on May 27, 1930, in Nashville, Tennessee to Virginia Crothers and Clifton Shaver. Juanita lived in Nashville for most of her life. At the age of 90, she decided to move closer to be with her family in Athens, Alabama and lived there until her death.
Juanita graduated from North Nashville High School class of 1948. After graduation, she was hired the same year to work in the accounting department of National Life and Accident Insurance Company. Juanita stayed with the company for 39 years until retiring in 1987. Juanita retired as Vice President and Treasurer, as the highest-ranking woman in the history of the company.
Juanita loved all sports. She played organized softball and basketball and had a passion for golf. She was a founding and lifetime member of Harpeth Hills Ladies Golf Association.
Juanita also had a love for traveling. She and her friends enjoyed traveling in her motorhome and also traveled all around the world.
She never met a stranger; she loved people. Her friends and family were so important to her.
Juanita loved the Lord. She was a member of Forest Hills Baptist Church in Nashville for many years before transferring her membership to Emmanuel Baptist Church once she moved to Athens.
Juanita is remembered with love by her family Theresa and Mike Butler, Meghan Butler, Betsy and Ryan Dorminey, and her namesake Frances Dorminey, all of Athens. ‘Francie’ named Juanita ‘Grannie Meow-Meow’ because Juanita loved her cat Sugah. She is preceded in death by her best friend, Betty ‘Betsy’ Gardner.
Pallbearers will be Chris Anderson, Nick Anderson, Justin Anderson, Jordan Anderson, Wade Minyard, Bennett Anderson, and Maddux Anderson.
A graveside ceremony to remember her wonderful life will be conducted at one o’clock on Friday, January 5, 2024 at Hermitage Memorial Gardens, 535 Shute Ln Old Hickory, TN 37138.
‘Grannie Meow-Meow’ shared a special bond with her granddaughter Meghan Butler. She would be pleased to have memorials made to Meals on Wheels of Decatur, where Meghan is a volunteer.
