Gary Thomas Hommrich, age 61, passed away March 11, 2020 after a courageous battle with cancer. Gary always said when confronted with adversity in his life, he was a “fighter” and he remained strong until the end of his time in this world.
Gary loved all of his family but he and his brother David were very close and especially in their younger years, were often involved in some sort of escapade. Later he met his “angel”, Gayla and they shared many happy years together. Gary enjoyed a long career as a diesel mechanic for Peterbilt. His final wish was a trip to the tropical paradise of Tahiti. He didn’t quite make it but we know he’s enjoying his reunion with Gayla in heaven.
He is survived by his siblings Mark (Kay) Hommrich, Sharon (Rick) Jackson and Tim Hommrich (Rex Choate), nieces Gretchen Hommrich and Cara (Brian) Chomicki.
Preceded in death by his loving wife Gayla Hommrich, infant daughter Katherine Hommrich, parents Richard and Kathleen Hommrich; brother David Hommrich, sister Carol Hommrich and niece Christie Medley.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses at Tennessee Oncology for their compassionate care of Gary. A private graveside service will be held for immediate family. A memorial Mass and celebration of life will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Gary’s name to the American Cancer Society.
