Gary graduated from Middle Tennessee State University and later attended and graduated from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville with a Doctorate of Jurisprudence. He was also a Certified Public Accountant—an achievement that reflected a steady diligence and an honest respect for doing things the right way.
A hard-working and faithful professional, Gary served as a freelance attorney, practicing mainly in Davidson County in the General Sessions Court. In his work, he was known for a steadiness and a loyal commitment to those who relied on him, meeting each day with resilience and the wisdom earned through years of experience.
Gary is survived by his loving wife, Judith E. Sadler; daughter, Elizabeth Parr; son, Douglas Connell; step-sons, Robert Hays, Jr., Ronald Hays, Richard Hays, and Brandon Williams; grandson, Waylon Parr; and sister, Sharon Davenport (Roger). He was preceded in death by his mother, Florence Gertrude Lippy. Gary also leaves behind many extended family members.;
There will be a Gathering of Family & Friends on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm at Hermitage Funeral Home. A Celebration of Gary’s Life will follow at 12:00 pm in the Tulip Grove Room at the funeral home. Richard Hays, Ronald Hays, and Brandon Williams will be among the Pallbearers. Following the service, Gary will be laid to rest in the Garden of Peace at Hermitage Memorial Gardens.
In all the roles he held—husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend—Gary was cherished and devoted, marked by a strength and a steadfast loyalty. His life reflected faithfulness, integrity, and an enduring presence that will be deeply missed.
