Gloria Jean Taylor, 77, of Old Hickory, Tennessee passed away on January 22, 2024. Mrs. Taylor was born in Old Hickory, Tennessee, on April 30, 1946, to parents, Hobert and Hattie Sampson. Gloria’s mothering skills began early in life. As a teenager, Gloria’s father became ill and she became his caretaker. Even after her father passed, she continued looking after her mother. “Gloria Sampson” attended and graduated from DuPont High School in Old Hickory with the Class of 1964. In 1965, she met the love of her life in Thomas Taylor. They have been married for fifty-nine years.
Mrs. Taylor was a wife, a mother, and held high standards as to the way she kept her home. She was truly a professional homemaker. In her spare time, she really enjoyed shopping and cooking on the holidays for family, friends, and neighbors. Mrs. Taylor was dedicated to taking care of her husband and raising her daughter. She always allowed other children to come to their home to play and would transport them wherever they wanted to go. She has always been a caretaker of people and things.
Church life has always been central in the Taylor household. Mrs. Taylor always enjoyed attending worship services, prayer groups, and special Bible studies. For many years, the former Two Rivers Baptist Church, across from the Opryland Hotel, was the church home for the Taylors. Eventually, they found a new church home in Victory Baptist Church in Mount Juliet, Tennessee.
Mrs. Taylor is preceded in death by her father, Hobert Sampson; her mother, Hattie Louise (Perryman) Sampson; and sisters, Patricia Norris and Cynthia Wedding. She is survived by her loving husband of fifty-nine years, Thomas E. Taylor; her daughter, Alicia Ann Langan (John); step-daughter, Trese Elaine Martin (Mike); grandchildren Seth Langan (Hailey), Zachary Langan (Lauren), Deborah Langan, Sarah Langan; step-grandchildren Mitch Martin and Evan Martin; great grandson, Forrest Langan; and sister, Barbara Carpenter.
