Visitation will be held Sunday, October 3, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Hermitage Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens. A visitation will also occur Monday, October 4, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Old Hickory Church of Christ. The Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, October 4, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Old Hickory Church of Christ, to be officiated by Don Loftis. Following the service, the final resting place will be at Hermitage Memorial Gardens, Old Hickory, Tennessee.
Buddy was born in Madison, Tennessee on August 27, 1931. He graduated from DuPont High School in 1949, and continued on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree from Murray State University, where he lettered in football and baseball, and graduated in 1953.
He married Bettye Ann Oldham on February 26, 1956; they were married for 65 wonderful years.
He was a member of the U.S. Army, then proceeded to work in management for The DuPont Company for 28 years. He was a loyal and active member of Old Hickory Church of Christ. He loved the Lord, he loved his family, he loved his country, and he loved others deeply with his big and beautiful heart of gold.
Buddy is survived by his loving wife, Bettye Gaines; his sister, Dorothy Weatherford; his brother, Bobby Gaines; his sons: Gregory Scott Gaines (Gina), Jeffrey Allan Gaines, Christopher Randall Gaines (Carol), Bradford Lee Gaines (Telisha); his 14 grandchildren; and his 14 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Virgie Gaines Hewgley; his father, Dow Gaines; his stepfather, John Hewgley; his brother, Billy Gaines; his son, Harold Graden Gaines Jr. (Bucky); and his grandsons, Justin Scott Gaines, and Graden Alexander Gaines.
