Hank graduated from Donelson High School with the Class of 1968. While there, he he played the saxophone in the Marching Band. He went on to serve his community for thirty-one years as a police officer with the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, dedicating his entire career to protecting and serving until his retirement. His commitment to his work was only matched by his devotion to his family and faith.
Hank was a cherished member of The Donelson Fellowship, where he was known for his gentle and compassionate nature. His faith was a guiding force in his life, and he was a beloved figure within his community.
Married to his loving wife Kathleen for thirty-three years, Hank was a family man through and through. He fathered three wonderful children: Kimberly Dawn VanDenburgh (Duane), James Michael VanDenburgh (Traci), and Elizabeth Morgan VanDenburgh. He was also a proud stepfather to Johnny Craig Bucy (Jen) and Jason Bucy (Jody). Hank was a devoted grandfather to Isabelle, Autumn, Karsyn, Jaylyn, Jordan, Coty, Hayden, Bentley, Lucas, Azrael, Aralyn, Ellie and Kate. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren Emerson, Hannah, Maverick, Everett, and Cason.
Known for his humorous spirit, Hank was a prankster at heart, earning him the endearing nickname "the Hankster." His ability to bring joy and laughter to those around him was just one of the many ways he touched the lives of others.
Hank was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Nelson VanDenburgh, Sr. and Dorothy Imogene (Canter) VanDenburgh, and his sister, Donna Shafer. His memory will be cherished by his family and all who knew him as a compassionate, beloved, and faithful man who lived life to the fullest.
There will be a Memorial Gathering of Family & Friends on Thursday, February 12, from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM at The Donelson Fellowship, 3210 McGavock Pike, Nashville, (615) 871.4769. Following the visitation will be a Celebration of Hank's Life. His final resting place will be in the Garden of Memories Mausoleum II at Hermitage Memorial Gardens, 535 Shute Lane, Old Hickory, TN, at a later date.
